As the top spec option, the Wildtrak comes equipped and ready to take on whatever you throw at it without much whining. Ford raises the standard and presents a technology-packed and well capable Wildtrak that is set to be the benchmark in the midsize double cab segment.

Performance

Ford have been constantly improving on the Ford ranger line and their efforts are starting to pay off. The new Wildtrak features an electronic steering system that makes the ranger feel light for easy parking and easy tight city street maneuverability. Under the hood of the Wildtrak sits a capable 3.2 litre turbo diesel engine, the most powerful across the four engine variants available across the Ranger lineup. It’s capable of a tow capacity of about 3500 Kg, 800mm waddling depth and a heavy duty battery that powers all the car’s electronics.

The Ranger 4 wheel drive system incorporates Electronic-Shift-On-The-Fly (ESOF) that enables seamless transition from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive system without having to stop the vehicle. It comes with a 6 speed transmission that delivers well above expectations. It gives a combined fuel consumption of about 8.9 litres per 100 Kms.

Interior

The interior of the new Wildtrak is a nice place to spend some time. There is a new 8 inch colour display that’s well incorporated into the Wildtrak design and offers navigation system, intuitive voice control system and digital FM radio. The redesigned SYNC® voice activated system makes connectivity seamless as it transfers your contacts automatically once connected to enable voice calling. It also enables you to play music from your secondary music devices, phone or USB.

However, the small touch buttons mean you have to look at it a while longer in order to get the prompt right, so only use it when it’s safe to do so. Some features may be locked out white the gears are engaged, but hey safety first right?
Up front you get ample storage space with a big glove compartment, ample door pockets, twin cup holders and arm rest compartment. You get contrast stitching on the dashboard and the steering wheel which has has the audio, voice recognition and radar cruise controls for ease of access. The cabin offers a great all round visibility. There are 2 USB ports, 2 12V outlets and an SD card port also included. The Wildtrak has a Technology Package option that features Radar cruise control, lane departure and keeping assist and a pre collision warning system. The second row offers a firm and comfortable sitting and acceptable sitting space as you’d expect in a double cab pickup. The interior is a nice Caliber Cloth in Trak Orange and Journey Grain leather in Ebony; a trim only exclusive to the Wildtrak. Also included in the second row are Isofix points, a center armrest with cup holders, a 12V charge point and a three point charging port for other electronic devices. Premium stitched floor mats are also tucked in the Wildtrak.

Exterior

Of the ten color variations available across the ranger line up, 5 trims are not available on the Wildtrak. However, the Pride Orange trim is exclusively offered and distinctly sets it apart from its siblings. The Wildtrak rides on standard 18″ 6*2 spoke aluminum alloy wheels coupled with 265/60 R18 tires. It sits well above obstacles with impressive approach, departure and breakover angles. Also distinguishing the Wildtrak from other Ranger variants is its monument grey grille with satin inserts. It has black door and tailgate handles, power adjustable and folding side mirrors with incorporated turn signals. The Ranger Wildtrak has a step rear bumper in monument grey and molded step bars with brushed inserts and a reverse camera nicely tucked away under the rear logo.

Ford have been constantly refining the Ranger line and the Wildtrak is an unsurprisingly impressive all round double cab with some driver assist systems such as trailer sway system, downhill assist, rollover mitigation system that though may be included in its segment competitors bundle up with its other specifications to tip the scales in its favor as an overall better option.
