Autofocus: 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI South African Version
Volkswagen has revealed the official pricing for the Polo, South Africa’s second most popular passenger car. The latest iteration of the Polo boasts a sportier and more contemporary appearance at both the front and rear. Across the entire range, LED technology is now a standard feature for both the headlights and taillights. The new Polo showcases a distinctive signature, highlighted by a novel LED light strip running along the radiator grille, complemented by the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights – a standard inclusion in the new Polo GTI.
The interior of the updated Polo showcases a digital cockpit, a redesigned multi-function steering wheel, next-generation infotainment systems, and the optional wireless App-Connect feature. Notably, the new Polo introduces the optional IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist feature for the first time.
Volkswagen has revamped its naming convention for the Polo model range. The lineup now includes the Polo (base model), Polo Life (mid-level), Polo R-Line (premium), and a GTI derivative.
Compared to its predecessor, the entry-level Polo (70kW Manual) now comes with standard LED headlights and taillights, a new multi-function steering wheel, and a digital dashboard display. App-Connect, previously an optional feature, is now included as a standard feature.
In the Polo Life (70kW Manual) variant, four additional features that were optional in the previous model are now standard. These include the digital dashboard display, Park Distance Control (front and rear), electric folding mirrors, and lumbar support for the driver and front passenger.
The Polo Life (85kW DSG®) variant now includes standard features such as a digital dashboard display, Park Distance Control (front and rear), electric folding mirrors, lumbar support for the driver and front passenger, and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with shift paddles. Additionally, the Polo Life (85kW DSG®) is equipped with 15-inch Essex alloy wheels.
The Polo R-Line stands out with its distinctive R-design bumpers. Standard features include the digital dashboard display, Park Distance Control (front and rear), electric folding mirrors, lumbar support for the driver and front passenger, and a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with shift paddles. The Polo R-Line also features 16-inch Valencia alloy wheels, a Composition Media infotainment system with inductive mobile charging, and a two-zone climatronic air-conditioning system.
The Polo GTI boasts premium IQ.Light LED matrix headlights, also found in the Golf 8 GTI. Standard features in the Polo GTI include a digital dashboard display, Park Distance Control, electric folding mirrors, Dynamic Chassis Control, dynamic front cornering lights, and a two-zone climatronic system. The new Polo GTI comes with autonomous emergency braking with front assist as a standard feature, which was not available in the previous model. The Polo GTI is also equipped with 17-inch Milton Keynes alloy wheels and a Composition Media infotainment system with inductive mobile charging.
