Autofocus: 2023 Urus Performante

Automobili Lamborghini unveils the 2023 Lamborghini Urus Performante, elevating the standards of Super SUV sportiness and performance by showcasing design elements that epitomize the new Urus’ prowess on streets, tracks, and varied terrains. The Urus Performante immediately commands attention with its bold and dynamic styling, signaling the embodiment of super sports engineering.

Before its official debut, the Urus Performante achieved a groundbreaking feat in the production SUV category during the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Road. It conquered the challenging course at an altitude of 4302 meters (14,115 ft) in an impressive time of 10:32.064, surpassing the previous record set in 2018 at 10:49.902.

“The Urus Performante takes the unparalleled performance and distinctive aesthetics of Lamborghini’s revolutionary Super SUV to unprecedented heights, preserving its opulent versatility while delivering an immersive driving experience. This transcends not only on the road but across all environments, marked by a captivating design that establishes new standards for driving dynamism in an already remarkable vehicle.”

Designed for performance

The Urus Performante exudes a striking, aeronautical dynamism that captivates from every angle, transcending mere front-facing dominance. Its design, characterized by a purer, sharper, and more pronounced bonnet and bumper, underscores the Performante’s super sports lineage while preserving the Urus’ inherent elegance. Setting a record in its segment, the Urus Performante boasts the highest number of carbon fiber components, showcasing its extensive use of composite materials.

“The Urus Performante’s bold and characterful design seamlessly integrates improved aerodynamics, featuring the front bumper’s air curtain. Visual distinctions, such as the new lightweight carbon fiber engine bonnet and widespread use of carbon fiber throughout, pay homage to its ‘Performante’ heritage. This benchmark Super SUV is crafted with a unique focus on the driver.”

Mitja Borkert, Head of Design

The hood, with deep cuts leading to the front bumper, is crafted from lightweight carbon fiber, optionally available in body color or partially visible carbon fiber. An optional carbon fiber roof pays homage to Lamborghini’s super sports models like the Huracán Performante and Super Trofeo.

The carbon fiber front bumper and splitter introduce assertive lines, with black air intakes enhancing engine cooling and embodying the SUV’s super sports legacy. An air curtain directs airflow over the front wheels, contributing to decreased drag. The redesigned rear spoiler increases rear downforce by 38%.

The Performante’s chassis is lowered by 20 mm with new steel springs, and a 16 mm broader wheel track is accompanied by wider carbon fiber wheel arches. Optional 23″ or forged 22″ lightweight wheels with titanium bolts and specially developed Pirelli tires enhance performance.

In profile, the lowered stance is accentuated by a prominent front and rear wing and bumper, extending the overall length by 25 mm. The distinctive rear features a rear spoiler with carbon fiber fins inspired by the Aventador SVJ and contributes to increased downforce.

The lower rear bumper and diffuser, crafted in carbon fiber, house a standard lightweight titanium Akrapovič sports exhaust with a characteristic Lamborghini resonance. The bi-color livery scheme emphasizes dynamism, with features like black painted door handles, CFK air outlets, and a CFK spoiler lip.

“The Urus set a new benchmark upon its launch, incorporating Lamborghini’s design DNA and technological prowess to introduce the world’s first Super SUV for a new era. The Urus Performante now raises the bar even higher within the SUV segment.”

Inside, the cockpit features Nero Cosmus black Alcantara as standard, with a new hexagonal seat stitching design, the “Performante trim,” and various customization options, including leather interiors. Ad Personam options extend the Performante trim to doors, roof-lining, seat backrest, and rear wall, with additional customization such as interior matte carbon fiber details, red door handles, and a customized kickplate. The steering wheel and Aluminum interior trim can be optionally treated in matte black, and the “Dark Package” extends this treatment to various interior details, including the lever of the Urus’ central ‘TAMBURO’. The Urus Performante features a new HMI graphic on both the center console screen and the main display, dedicated to its design.

Engineered for driving

“The Urus Performante emerges onto the road as a nimble, finely tuned athlete. With its robust presence, distinctive design, V8 twin-turbo powerplant, and lightweight sports exhaust, it asserts itself as the most exhilarating contender on every road, track, and loose surface – the ultimate SUV for super sports car enthusiasts,”.

Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer

Enhanced with an additional 16 CV, the Performante boasts a total power of 666 CV, while shedding 47 kg, resulting in an outstanding weight-to-power ratio of 3.2, setting a new standard in its class. Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in a mere 3.3 seconds and coming to a standstill from 100 km in just 32.9 m, the Urus Performante delivers 850 Nm of torque at 2,300 to 4,500 rpm. It achieves a top speed of 306 km/h, showcasing remarkable responsiveness, handling, and stability. Improved aerodynamic efficiency contributes to an 8% increase in overall downforce.

Optimizing torque distribution is a new differential, offering a ratio increase from 3.16 to 3.4 in drive conditions and from 3.02 to 3.33 when coasting. The Pirelli P Zero tires (sizes 285/40 R22 and 325/35 R22) accompany the Urus Performante, featuring an evolution of the Urus Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R. Developed in collaboration with Lamborghini, this semi-slick tire is tailored to SUV characteristics, providing high performance on both dry and wet surfaces.

Behind the wheel, the Urus Performante offers an enhanced connection with the road, heightened agility, and a more sports-oriented feel. Front wheel steering has been recalibrated for precise inputs and direct feedback, while rear-wheel steering intervention is faster, increasing turn-in agility. The drive modes have been re-engineered, offering STRADA for a comfortable ride, SPORT for enhanced throttle response and dynamic handling, and CORSA for a race car-inspired experience with supreme handling and a spirited sports exhaust note.

Introducing a new RALLY selection, the Urus Performante takes Super SUV performance to new heights on dirt tracks. With optimized anti-roll and damping systems for steel springs, it amplifies its oversteer character, providing a thrilling experience in off-road conditions.

For the Chinese market, the Urus Performante undergoes technical adjustments, with engine power set at 640 CV for homologation reasons.
