At the 2023 India Auto Show, Suzuki made the official debut of two new models: The Jimny five-door variant and the coupe-style SUV named Suzuki Fronx. Continuing the design cues of its three-door counterpart, the 2023 Suzuki Jimny five-door model retains its distinctive appearance but features a lengthened body, resulting in increased interior space and rear seating capacity. According to reports, the five-door Suzuki Jimny is scheduled for an international release in May, catering to markets outside of India.

The new car maintains the classic design elements of the Jimny, including the iconic five-hole grille and circular headlight arrangement, contributing to its recognizable appearance. The front fascia of the new model has received some modifications, featuring a rectangular air intake in the center, flanked by circular fog lamps. These changes enhance the overall aesthetics of the vehicle, giving it a more commanding presence. Furthermore, the car retains its upright and boxy silhouette, complemented by a contrasting black roof that adds to its visual appeal. The primary body color is a striking yellow, further accentuating its distinctive look.

On the sides of the vehicle, the new car boasts wide and muscular front and rear wheel arches, paired with double five-spoke 15-inch wheels, which add to its visual appeal. The most notable change is the elongated body and the addition of rear doors. These modifications result in a larger overall size and a relatively more spacious interior. The standard three-door Japanese version of the Jimny currently measures 3395mm in length, while the global version extends to 3645mm. The newly released five-door variant reaches a length of 3985mm, with a wheelbase extended by 340mm to 2590mm. Additionally, the five-door version maintains a width of 1645mm and a height of 1720mm, comparable in size to the three-door Jimny.

At the rear of the car, the new model retains the external spare tire, while the trunk is designed with side-opening doors. The taillights are integrated into the rear enclosure, resulting in a well-executed overall design.
The interior of the new car, including the shape of the center console, remains largely unchanged from the three-door version. In terms of space, the Indian-spec models offer a rear seating configuration that can comfortably accommodate three passengers, providing a five-seater layout. Folding down the rear seats increases the trunk capacity from 208 liters to 332 liters, significantly enhancing its load-carrying capabilities.

In terms of features, the new car is equipped with a 9-inch central control multimedia display that provides easy access to various functions. It also supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, enhancing the convenience of smartphone integration. Additionally, practical features such as a rearview camera and an Arkamys audio system are included.

When it comes to safety, the five-door model is equipped with several advanced systems. These include hill hold and hill descent assist systems, along with six airbags for enhanced occupant protection. The car is also equipped with ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and an electronic brake force distribution system, further enhancing its safety capabilities.

In terms of power, the new car will be powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, combined with a 48V light-hybrid system. This powertrain configuration allows the engine to generate a maximum power output of 105 horsepower at 6000 rpm, along with a peak torque of 134 Nm. The transmission options available for the new car include a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission, both paired with a standard four-wheel drive system. Notably, the five-door version will offer three selectable modes for the four-wheel drive system: high-speed two-wheel drive, high-speed four-wheel drive, and low-speed four-wheel drive.

In terms of off-road capabilities, the new car impresses with a 36-degree approach angle and a 24-degree departure angle. It also offers a remarkable 50-degree tilt angle, combined with a generous 210mm ground clearance, making it capable of tackling challenging terrains with ease.
