Toyota has unveiled the all-new 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser, a compact all-electric SUV tailored for the fast-growing European market. Drawing inspiration from the Urban SUV Concept, the Urban Cruiser expands Toyota’s fully electric portfolio and positions the brand more firmly within the highly competitive compact SUVs EV segment.

Toyota’s Multi-Path Electrification Strategy

This launch is part of Toyota’s wider strategy to deliver a full spectrum of electrified drivetrains. By 2026, the brand plans to offer 15 zero-emission vehicles, six of which will ride on a dedicated battery-electric platform. The Urban Cruiser plays a key role in this roadmap, supporting Toyota’s ambition of achieving full CO₂ reduction across Europe by 2035, while complementing its existing range of plug-in hybrids, full hybrids, and fuel cell electric models.

Distinctive SUV Design

The 2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser distinguishes itself with a bold and contemporary design. Guided by an “Urban Tech” theme, it pairs a sturdy lower body with a signature hammerhead front fascia. Its compact yet muscular stance is defined by sculpted bumpers, a full-width rear light signature, and available bi-tone paint schemes accented by a contrasting black roof. The look is completed with aerodynamic alloy wheels, offered in 18- or 19-inch sizes with full wheel covers.

  • Compact Electric SUV: The 2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser is a fully electric compact SUV, expanding Toyota’s footprint in Europe’s fast-growing EV segment.
  • Multi-Path Electrification Strategy: Supports Toyota’s plan to introduce 15 zero-emission models by 2026—including six dedicated BEVs—on the road to carbon neutrality in Europe by 2035.
  • Distinctive Design: Showcases Toyota’s “Urban Tech” theme with a strong lower body, hammerhead-inspired front fascia, and a full-width rear light signature.
  • Compact Yet Spacious: A longer wheelbase than the Toyota Yaris Cross delivers a roomy interior with flexible cargo solutions and sliding rear seats.
  • Interior Versatility: Split-folding seats, elevated driving position, and customisable ambient lighting create a practical yet refined cabin experience.
  • Multiple Powertrains: Two lithium-iron phosphate battery choices, with both FWD and AWD configurations, give drivers flexibility to match their lifestyle.
  • Dedicated EV Platform: Built on a purpose-designed battery-electric platform, optimising cabin space and integrating a durable, efficient battery system.
  • All-Wheel Drive Capability: AWD models add Trail Mode, Downhill Assist Control, and Snow Mode for enhanced traction in varying conditions.

Spacious and Flexible Interior

With a wheelbase 140 mm longer than the Yaris Cross, the 2026 Urban Cruiser offers a noticeably more spacious cabin. A sliding rear seat system allows passengers to adjust legroom and comfort, while the 40:20:40 split-folding configuration with reclining options adds flexibility for both cargo and occupants—qualities typically found in larger SUVs.

Inside, the design emphasises a clean, open feel paired with high seating positions that enhance visibility. Black and dark grey upholstery is complemented by ambient lighting, offering 12 customisable colour choices to create a tailored cabin atmosphere.

Multiple Powertrain Options

The Urban Cruiser offers a choice of two lithium-iron phosphate battery packs, paired with front- or all-wheel drive for flexibility across driving needs:

  • 49 kWh (FWD): 106 kW / 144 DIN hp
  • 61 kWh (FWD): 128 kW / 174 DIN hp
  • 61 kWh (AWD): 135 kW / 184 DIN hp

Every configuration is equipped with an energy-efficient heat pump for climate control and a battery pre-heating system to ensure consistent performance in colder climates.

Dedicated Electric Platform

The Urban Cruiser is underpinned by Toyota’s new dedicated battery-electric platform, engineered for strength, efficiency, and interior space. By eliminating traditional floor crossmembers, the design maximizes cabin room while seamlessly housing the high-voltage battery system within the vehicle’s structure.

All-Wheel Drive and Driving Assistance Features

The all-wheel drive variant adds a 48 kW motor on the rear axle, delivering greater traction and stability across challenging road conditions. It is further supported by advanced drive-assist features, including:

  • Trail Mode: Automatically manages wheel spin by shifting torque to the wheel with grip.
  • Downhill Assist Control: Maintains stability and control on steep descents.
  • Snow Mode: Optimizes throttle response to reduce wheel slip, also available on FWD models.

Advanced Technology Features

Every Urban Cruiser comes standard with Toyota’s latest safety and driver-assistance technologies, including a Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Keep Assist, and a 360-degree camera that enhances visibility during parking or on uneven terrain.

Inside, the digital cockpit features a 10.25-inch digital combimeter paired with a 10.1-inch multimedia display. The multimedia system supports cloud-based navigation, real-time traffic updates, and full smartphone integration for seamless app connectivity.

Electric Vehicle Management Tools

Charging is made simple with the MyToyota app and the Toyota HomeCharge wallbox. The app enables drivers to monitor battery levels, locate nearby charging stations, and schedule charging sessions remotely—making ownership more convenient and connected.

Additional Features by Trim Level

Depending on trim level, the Urban Cruiser can be equipped with premium amenities such as a JBL audio system, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a fixed sunroof, enhancing comfort and convenience on every drive.
