Honda has unveiled the latest iteration of its best-selling SUV, the fifth-generation 2017 Honda CR-V. As a noteworthy mention in the midsize SUV segment for the past two decades, the redesigned and reengineered 2017 CR-V further cements its place in the increasingly competitive segment. Featuring a striking new exterior design, an upgraded premium interior, the introduction of the model’s inaugural turbocharged engine, and a plethora of innovative features and technologies, Honda aims to solidify the CR-V’s position as the undisputed benchmark in its highly popular midsize SUVs category.

BOLD AND SOPHISTICATED NEW DESIGN
The CR-V’s revamped styling takes a bold new direction, exuding an assertive demeanor characterized by crisp and sharp design elements at the front end. Notable features include aggressively styled headlights enveloped by a wing-shaped LED Daytime Running Light (DRL) array across all trims, along with robust and wide fenders. The elongated hood, increased wheelbase, abbreviated rear overhang, and dual exhaust outlets collectively contribute to endowing the new CR-V with a more refined and athletic presence.
The redesigned front end showcases distinctive Honda LED headlights on the Touring trim, accompanied by a groundbreaking Automatic Shutter Grille System that reduces aerodynamic drag. Upgraded aluminum alloy wheels, ranging in size from 17 to 18 inches across all trims, further enhance the CR-V’s visual appeal. Improved visibility is achieved through narrowed A-pillars, complementing the overall aesthetic.
Enhancing convenience is the introduction of a Honda-first Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate, allowing for the seamless opening and closing of the tailgate through a foot-activated sensor beneath the rear of the vehicle. The 2017 CR-V, available in EX and higher trims, marks a significant milestone by introducing the model’s inaugural turbocharged engine—a potent and fuel-efficient 1.5-liter DOHC, direct-injected, and turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder powerplant. Generating an impressive 190 horsepower (SAE net), this engine delivers refined and responsive performance across the entire operating range. Paired with the CR-V’s more aerodynamic body, this turbocharged powerhouse is poised to secure the highest EPA fuel economy ratings in the compact SUV class. Meanwhile, the CR-V LX trims will be equipped with a 2.4-liter DOHC, direct-injected i-VTECÔ engine. Both engines will seamlessly integrate with a smooth-shifting and sporty continuously variable transmission (CVT) featuring Honda G-Shift control logic. Comprehensive specifications, including EPA ratings, will be disclosed closer to the launch date.
The all-new body and chassis design in the 2017 CR-V enhances its agility, confidence in handling, refined characteristics, increased ground clearance, and overall versatility. The front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension systems boast specially tuned low-friction dampers. Both FWD and AWD models feature tubular front and solid rear stabilizer bars, fostering swift turn-in and flatter cornering. Additionally, the dual-pinion, variable-ratio Electric Power Steering (EPS) contributes to the CR-V’s direct and gratifying steering feel.
