2025 McLaren 750S JC96 goes Japan‑only with aero and F1 GTR flair
McLaren has created a Japan-exclusive edition of the 750S, dubbed the 2025 McLaren 750S JC96. Only 61 units will be built, offered in both coupe and Spider form. The number pays tribute to the F1 GTR that captured Japan’s grand touring crown in 1996, and the car combines that motorsport heritage with purposeful performance upgrades and extensive McLaren Special Operations (MSO) customisation options.

Design that wears its history
The JC96 channels its F1 GTR roots with a tiger-stripe design inspired by Team Goh’s cars from the 1996 JGTC season. Customers can choose any standard 750S color—or request a bespoke MSO shade—then layer on JC96-specific painted accents for the front splitter, rear-wing endplates, and mirror caps. Those accents are offered in Memphis Red, Titanium Silver, Ice White, or Graphite Grey. For just four buyers, MSO will go further still, hand-painting the full “JC96 Tribute Livery” across the car. This meticulous process carries the stripes from nose to tail in a true one-off display of craftsmanship.

Details are equally considered: body-colored carbon-fiber front fenders with gloss-black louvres, a gloss-black roof with a glazed C-pillar, a gloss-black lower bumper and diffuser, and chrome McLaren badging. The JC96 branding is painted on, while optional touches include special side emblems and unique lettering across the active rear wing.
Aero with purpose: MSO High Downforce Kit
The centerpiece upgrade for every 750S JC96 is the MSO High Downforce Kit (HDK). This package includes a reshaped front bumper with a larger dual-element splitter, a taller active rear wing with integrated endplates, and a louvred under-wing panel. According to McLaren, the setup boosts overall downforce by up to 10 percent. It’s not just for show, either—the gains are tangible in high-speed corners. Importantly, this marks the first time the 750S HDK has been fitted to the Spider variant.

Additional motorsport-inspired touches include a centrally mounted stainless-steel sports exhaust, finished with a natural titanium tip. The overall stance is assertive yet balanced, with aerodynamic elements that appear engineered for function first—delivering genuine performance rather than just posing for the camera.
New forged wheels, brakes, and tires
Making its debut on the JC96 is an all-new ultra-lightweight forged wheel: a 15-spoke “Delta” design inspired by the later “Longtail” F1 GTR race wheels. Finished in Silver as standard, they’re matched with brake calipers in F1 Gold featuring red McLaren logos. Through MSO, buyers can personalize further with F1 GTR-style painted center caps or custom caliper colors.

The wheel package is paired with Pirelli rubber, starting with P Zero as standard. For more performance-focused driving, P Zero Corsa tires are available, while P Zero Trofeo R is offered for dedicated circuit use. P Zero Winters can also be ordered via retailers. Each compound has been co-developed by Pirelli and McLaren to match the car’s dynamics.
Cabin: race references, subtle and not so subtle
Inside, the 2025 750S JC96 trades luxury for a sharper, more purposeful feel. Three Alcantara “Performance” cabin themes are available: Carbon Black with matching stitching, Carbon Black with Bright Red contrast stitching, or Dove Grey accented with Carbon Black. JC96 embroidery appears on the headrests, while additional branding is placed on the armrest.

The motorsport tribute is clearest in the details. The pedals and Drive-Select switches are finished in gold, complemented by a gold dedication plaque unique to each car. Brushed dark-titanium trim frames the infotainment system, switchgear, door inserts, and air-vent bezels, while the steering-wheel clasp and extended metal shift paddles carry the same finish. A 12-color ambient lighting system is included, along with illuminated engine-bay lighting—a showcase for the hardware itself.
For those who want to go further, MSO offers a wide menu: an Interior Livery Theme Pack with tiger-stripe paint on the 12-o’clock steering marker and paddles, extended carbon-fiber sills and interior accents, a bespoke painted key, and more.
The familiar firepower of the 750S
Mechanically, the JC96 sticks with the proven 750S setup. The mid-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 (M840T) produces 750 PS (740 hp) and 590 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Performance numbers remain unchanged: 0–60 mph in 2.7 seconds, 0–124 mph in about 7.2 seconds, and a 206-mph top speed. Thanks to its carbon-fiber Monocage II chassis, the coupe weighs as little as 2,815 pounds (dry), while McLaren’s Proactive Chassis Control III suspension delivers the brand’s trademark blend of sharp response and supple body control.

So while the powertrain isn’t new, it doesn’t need to be. The real distinction lies in the aero upgrades and how the JC96 fuses the 750S’s raw performance with a uniquely Japanese sense of identity.
Equipment highlights at a glance
Standard equipment for the 750S JC96 includes the MSO High Downforce Kit, Delta 15-spoke ultra-lightweight forged wheels, F1 Gold brake calipers with red McLaren logos, a central-exit exhaust with titanium finisher, a gloss-black exterior package, chrome badging, JC96-specific painted accents, and a gloss-black roof with a glazed C-pillar. The cabin comes in full Alcantara with the JC96 Performance theme, complemented by a gold-finished pedal set and Drive-Select switches, a gold dedication plaque, brushed dark-titanium trim, extended metal paddles, 12-color ambient lighting, engine-bay illumination, and Alcantara sill trim.

For those seeking more exclusivity, MSO offers carbon-fiber upgrade packs covering the exterior details, HDK components, underbody panels, and front and rear louvres. Unique JC96 750S side badges and active rear-wing branding are optional as well. Another highlight is an optional titanium Track Record Plaque mounted in the frunk—a modern homage to the commemorative plate featured in the original McLaren F1 road car.
Availability and pricing
The 2025 McLaren 750S JC96 is capped at just 61 units, all reserved for Japan. Pricing is still under wraps, but with the standard 750S starting at roughly $324,000 for the coupe and about $345,000 for the Spider in the U.S., this MSO-laden special will certainly command a higher figure. Whether any examples make their way stateside is uncertain—for now, it remains officially a Japan-only celebration model.
Design takeaway
The JC96 is built around a clear theme—Japan, 1996, F1 GTR—and McLaren delivers it with confidence. The tiger-stripe livery may divide opinion, but the new 15-spoke Delta wheels and HDK aero kit give the car a focused, purposeful stance that complements the 750S’s shape. If there’s a quibble, the gold interior accents lean a bit ceremonial. Still, the substance is undeniable: added downforce, forged wheels, and serious tire options ensure this is far more than a cosmetic special.

A focused salute with bite
As special editions go, the 2025 McLaren 750S JC96 walks a fine line well. It’s unmistakably a tribute to McLaren’s Japanese motorsport legacy, yet it also delivers real substance through the HDK and focused hardware upgrades. The standard 750S is still the pure performance benchmark in the range, but the JC96 layers that excellence with a narrative collectors will value—backed by aerodynamic gains that justify their presence beyond the brochure.
